A Voice for All Nations

Community Kitchen

Every Friday afternoon and Saturday Morning, Moricetown Place offers a community kitchen service where everyone is welcomed to enjoy a healthy meal and enjoy the company of others.

Fridays 12:00 noon - Moricetown Place Community Centre
Saturdays 8:00 am - Moricetown Place Community Centre

With the support of local groups and community members, we have been able to provide a Friday Lunch and a Saturday Breakfast.  Special Thanks to the Healthy Babies, Healthy Families Program for their continuous support.  Also a special thanks to the Moricetown Band Social Development Program for their on going support.

If you would like more information on how you could get involved or if you would like to contribute food items or funds, please give Leonard a call at 847-4757.  Many Thanks!

Recreation

Moricetown Place offers a wide variety of Recreational activities and events.  The Recreation Coordinator, Leoard Frazer works really hard at meeting the specific needs of everyone regardless of age, gender or race.  Moricetown Place is known by its members as a place to play pool, foozeball, ping-pong, board games or movie nights.

Leonard is responsible for ensuring that the community receives monthly recreation newsletters, this news source gives the community members an idea of what is happening in Moricetown Place's  Recreation department.  Within this newsletter, readers are sure to find the monthly schedule outlining what's in store for people of all ages.  If you have any questions about Recreation or have any ideas, please contact Leonard by phone, email or in person.

Wet'suwet'en Language Classes

Culture and Traditional Awareness is very important to the direction of our organization.  Moricetown is home to many people of many backgrounds and we would like to accomodate everyone through our Wet'suwet'en Language Classes being offered during the school year at the Centre by a team of experts: Ron A. Mitchell, Augustine Morris and Lillian Lewis.

The challenges we are faced with when delivering this specific program is finding an appropriate time to meet.  In the past, we've met at the Healthy Babies, Healthy Families office every Wednesday - this year we'll be utilizing the Moricetown Place Community Centre.  Schedule is TBA.

If you are interested in signing up for these free classes or would like to volunteer your time towards this exciting and highly beneficial venture, please contact our office.  The opportunities are truly endless, if you think we can host a cross-cultural exchange with another community - why not get the ball rolling?!

Traditional Dance Group

The Wet'suwet'en Dancers were formed in the early 90's with Helen Nikal as their coach.  Today the dancers are warming up and preparing some new songs and dances with the guidance and inspiration of Helen Nikal, Lillian Lewis and Beatice Morris.  New and old dancers have regrouped and are very excited to learn the steps our elders have danced to.

At the moment, there is no set schedule for dance class - when we get back into the school year routine and when everyone is back from Summer Holidays we will invite community members out to the Centre for traditional dance class.

If you are interested in joining or would like more information, please call Helen at the Head Office, 847-2133 ext. 226.  Keep your eyes peeled for new traditional programs and activities!

Guitar Lessons

The community has been taking advantage of our Guitar Lessons being offered at the Centre by our Youth Worker, Delaney Sam.  The program started in the Winter of 2005 and has since grew to the point where there was not enough equipment to meet the demand.  Thanks to the Social Development Team for purchasing a couple more guitars and for their continuous support.

If you would like more information about Guitar Lessons and when they are being offered, please give Delaney a call or send him an email to: delaney@moricetownplace.org  The monthly schedule changes every month, call the Centre to find out how to get involved.
